Transcribe – Privacy Policy
Effective October 29, 2026 · Transcribe at transcribe.riekapps.com, provided by RiekApps
Key Points
- Your audio or video is decoded and transcribed inside your browser. The file, the recording and the transcript are never uploaded, to RiekApps or to anyone else.
- The only large download is the open Whisper speech model, fetched once and cached by your browser.
- There is no account, no sign-up, no ads and nothing to buy on the website.
- We use analytics to count visits and see whether transcriptions succeed. Those events carry numbers such as the length of a file, never its sound or its words.
- The microphone is used only while you record, after you press Record and your browser asks for permission.

1. Transcription Happens In Your Browser
Transcribe turns an audio or video file, or a recording you make on the page, into a timestamped transcript that you can copy or download as .txt or .srt. Every step runs in the browser tab in front of you: the file is read from your device, decoded by your browser, and passed to a speech model that runs on your own processor or graphics card (WebGPU, or WebAssembly where WebGPU is not available).
Your file, your recording and the transcript are never sent to a RiekApps server or to anyone else. Close the tab and they are gone; we have no copy to recover.
2. The Speech Model Download
The first time you transcribe, your browser downloads the speech model: OpenAI’s open Whisper model (Whisper Base for “Fast”, Whisper Small for “Accurate”) from Hugging Face, and the transformers.js library that runs it from the jsDelivr CDN. Like any download, those requests tell the server your IP address and browser; they contain nothing about your audio. The model is then cached by your browser so later visits do not download it again.
3. The Microphone
The page asks for microphone access only when you press Record, through your browser’s own permission prompt. The recording is held in the tab’s memory and transcribed there, like an uploaded file. You can revoke the permission at any time in your browser’s site settings.
4. Analytics
To know how many people use Transcribe and whether it works, the website uses Google Analytics 4 and may use PostHog, a product analytics service. Besides page views, they receive these events:
- A file was added — whether it was uploaded, dropped or recorded, its length in seconds and its file extension (for example m4a).
- A transcription started, finished or failed — the model chosen, whether it ran on the GPU or CPU, the length in seconds, the detected language, how long it took, the number of words, or a short technical error message.
- An export — whether you copied the text or downloaded .txt or .srt.
- A click on the phone app — which store link you followed.
None of these events contains your audio, the text of your transcript or the name of your file. Google Analytics and PostHog set cookies or similar browser storage to tell visits apart; PostHog session recordings, if enabled, mask every input field. You can block both with a content blocker or your browser’s tracking protection, and the tool keeps working.
5. What Is Stored In Your Browser
The speech model and the transformers.js library, cached so they do not have to be downloaded again, and the analytics cookies described in section 4. Nothing you transcribe is stored. Clearing the site data for transcribe.riekapps.com in your browser removes all of it.
6. What RiekApps Never Collects
- No audio, video, recordings or transcripts, and nothing derived from what was said.
- No file names.
- No name, email address, phone number or account information; there is no account.
- No precise location.
7. Third Parties
- Hugging Face and jsDelivr — serve the model files and the library (section 2).
- Google — Google Analytics 4 and Firebase Hosting, which serves the website. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
- PostHog — product analytics, if enabled (section 4). See PostHog’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Play and the App Store — only if you follow a link to the Voice Recorder phone app, whose own privacy policy applies there.
8. Your Choices And Rights
RiekApps holds no profile about you. Analytics data is held by Google and PostHog and kept for their standard retention periods; it is not linked to a name or an email address. Clear the site data in your browser to remove everything Transcribe stored. If you have a question or a request under a privacy law that applies to you — for example the GDPR or the Indian Digital Personal Data Protection Act — write to riekapps@gmail.com and we will answer it.
9. Children
Transcribe is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. It does not ask anyone for personal information.
10. Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version is published on this page with a new effective date. Audio and transcripts will not start leaving your device without this page saying so first.
