Key Points
- What you type is never sent anywhere. The test and the lessons run entirely in your browser. We never store your keystrokes or the text you typed, only the result numbers of each session (speed, accuracy, error counts per key, duration).
- Without an account, everything lives in your browser’s local storage. You can export it as a file, import it elsewhere or delete it from the progress page at any time.
- An account is optional. It exists to keep your progress outside one browser and to restore a purchase. Sign-in is through Firebase Authentication (Google or an email link); we store your user id, email, session results and programme progress.
- Payments are processed by Dodo Payments, the merchant of record. We never see your card details; we receive a signed notification with the order id, amount and the email you used, which we keep to grant and support your purchase.
- Analytics (Google Analytics 4) load only if you accept the consent banner, and send event names and rounded numbers, never text. Declining changes nothing in the trainer.
- You can delete your account and every server-side record yourself from the account page, or by writing to riekapps@gmail.com.
1. What Stays In Your Browser
Type works without an account. Your preferences (keyboard layout, goal, daily minutes, accent setting, consent choice), the results of every completed session and your position in the 28-day programme are stored in your browser’s local storage under a random install id. An unfinished session is also saved there so a page reload can resume it.
This data never leaves your device unless you create an account and sync it. From the progress page you can export it as a JSON file, import a file you exported before, or delete everything in one step.
2. What You Type
The exercise text is compared with your keystrokes inside your browser. We do not record, transmit or store the keystrokes, the text you produced or any timing of individual keys. A finished session keeps only aggregate numbers: net keystrokes per minute, words per minute, accuracy, counts of insertions, errors and deletions, active time, the lesson id, and a per-key error count (for example “ñ: 3 errors in 12 attempts”) that drives the review exercises. A result is marked “unverified” when text was pasted or inserted in bulk; that flag is stored with the result.
3. The Optional Account
If you sign in, authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication (Google) using Google sign-in or a passwordless email link. We then store, in Cloud Firestore (Google Cloud, EU region), your user id, email, first and last seen dates, your session results as described above and your programme progress. Signing in merges the history of your current browser with your account without duplicating sessions.
We do not store passwords (there are none), profile photos or any data from your Google account beyond the email and user id Firebase returns to us.
4. Purchases
The 28-day programme is a one-time purchase sold through Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record and handles the checkout, taxes, invoices and refunds. Card or wallet details are entered on Dodo’s pages and never reach RiekApps.
After a payment Dodo sends our server a signed notification containing the payment id, product, amount, currency, status and the email used at checkout, together with the account id we attached when opening the checkout. We store this order record and the resulting entitlement so we can unlock the programme, restore it on another device, and honour refunds or disputes (which revoke the entitlement). 5. Analytics And Consent
On your first visit a banner asks whether we may use Google Analytics 4. Nothing loads until you accept; choosing “essential only” keeps every feature working. If you accept, we send page views and a small set of named events (test started, lesson completed, pricing viewed, purchase attempted or completed) with rounded metrics such as net speed and accuracy. We never send typed text, keystrokes or lesson bodies.

6. Third Parties
- Google (Firebase) — hosting of the site, authentication, the Firestore database and the server function that verifies purchases and serves programme texts.
- Dodo Payments — checkout, invoices, taxes and refunds for the one-time purchase.
- Google Analytics 4 — only after consent, as described in section 5.
There are no advertising networks, no session-replay tools and no other trackers.
7. Retention And Deletion
Browser data stays until you delete it. Account data stays while the account exists. On the account page you can delete your account, which removes your authentication record, your synced results and progress and your order records from our servers; Dodo keeps the invoice records it is legally required to keep. The same deletion can be requested by email.
8. Your Rights
Under the GDPR and comparable laws you can access, correct, export and erase your data and object to its processing. Export and erasure are built into the app (progress and account pages). For anything else, write to riekapps@gmail.com; we answer within 30 days.
9. Children
Type is a general-audience tool aimed at adults preparing for work or exams. It is not directed at children under 14 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
10. Changes
Changes to this policy are published on this page with a new effective date. A change that broadens what we collect is announced in the app before it takes effect.
