Speedometer – Terms of Use

Effective September 1, 2026 · By using the app, you agree to these terms

Key Points

  • The app reads your phone's GPS. It is not a legal replacement for your vehicle's own speedometer, and readings depend on your signal.
  • You are responsible for driving safely and obeying posted limits. Set the app up before you drive, never while driving.
  • The gauge, digital readout, map, speed alerts, all four vehicle modes and unlimited recording are free. Pro is one purchase that unlocks full trip history, all eight dashboard colours and HUD mode.
  • Purchases are billed and refunded by Google Play or Apple, under their policies.
  • Your trips stay on your phone. Uninstalling the app deletes them, and we hold no copy.

1. This Agreement

These terms are between you and RiekApps, and they cover the Speedometer mobile app. Installing or using the app means you accept them. If you do not, uninstall the app. Your purchase is a separate transaction with Google or Apple, governed additionally by their terms.

2. Licence To Use The App

RiekApps grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own purposes. You may not copy, sell, rent, sub-licence, decompile or reverse engineer the app, or strip out its notices. The app, its gauge and display design, its artwork and its code remain the property of RiekApps.

3. Accuracy And GPS

The app derives your speed, distance and route from your phone’s GPS receiver. That reading is a measurement, not a certainty. Accuracy depends on your satellite signal, and degrades in tunnels, in multi-storey car parks, under dense tree cover, between tall buildings and in severe weather. Distance and average speed for a trip inherit any error in the positions that make it up.

The app is not a certified measuring instrument and is not a legal replacement for your vehicle’s speedometer or odometer. Do not rely on it for anything where an exact, legally defensible figure matters — a speeding dispute, an insurance claim, a mileage reimbursement, a competitive result. Vehicle speedometers are deliberately calibrated to read slightly high, so a difference between the two readings is expected and is not a fault in either.

4. Safe Use While Driving

You are solely responsible for operating your vehicle safely and for obeying every speed limit, traffic law and signal that applies to you. Nothing the app shows overrides a posted limit or the conditions in front of you.

Set up the app — units, limits, vehicle, colours — before you begin driving, and mount your phone securely. Do not interact with the screen while the vehicle is moving. The speed-limit alert is a convenience, not a safety system: it can be late, it can be silenced by your phone’s own volume and do-not-disturb settings, and it will not fire at all if you have lost GPS signal. HUD mode reflects the display in your windshield; use it only where local law permits, only where the reflection does not obstruct your view, and never in a way that distracts you from the road. In many places using a handheld phone while driving is an offence regardless of what is on the screen.

5. The Free Tier

The free version is a complete speedometer, not a trial. The analog gauge, the digital readout, the live map, speed-limit alerts, all four vehicle modes, the odometer and unlimited trip recording are free and have no daily cap. The free tier keeps your three most recent trips in history, gives you the default dashboard colour, and includes three free trials of HUD mode.

6. Speedometer Pro

Speedometer Pro is a single one-time purchase — not a subscription — that unlocks your full trip history, all eight dashboard colours and HUD mode. It is billed by Google Play on Android and by Apple on iOS, and is tied to the store account that bought it, so it restores on your other devices signed in to that account. Use Restore purchases if it does not appear. A discounted price is sometimes offered for a limited window; when the window closes the standard price applies, and both are real prices for the same unlock. Prices differ by country and may change over time; the price shown in the app at the moment you buy is the one that applies.

7. Refunds

Refunds are handled by the store that took your money, under its own policy — Google Play or Apple. RiekApps cannot issue or reverse a charge. If a refund is refused and you believe the app genuinely did not work as described, write to riekapps@gmail.com and we will try to help, including by telling the store that we support your request.

8. Your Trips Are Yours

Your recorded trips, routes and mileage belong to you. They are stored on your phone and we neither hold a copy nor claim any rights over them. The other side of that: we cannot recover them for you. If you clear the app’s data, uninstall it, lose the phone or reset it without a device backup, the trips are gone. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

9. Acceptable Use

Do not use the app to break the law, to encourage or record dangerous or illegal driving, to track another person without their knowledge and consent, or to interfere with the app’s billing, security or functioning. Do not present its readings as certified measurements.

10. Availability And Changes

The app is provided as it is. Features may be added, changed or removed in later versions, and the map depends on OpenStreetMap and on your internet connection, neither of which we control. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. If a feature you paid for is removed outright, we will say so before it happens.

11. Limitation Of Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, RiekApps is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app — including any fine, penalty, accident, injury, dispute or loss of data that follows from relying on a reading, an alert that did not sound, or a recording that did not save. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and if you have consumer rights in your country, these terms do not take them away.
