Speedometer – Privacy Policy

1. Everything Runs On Your Device

Speedometer shows how fast you are moving, records your trips, and warns you when you go over a speed limit you set. All of that is computed on your phone from your phone’s own GPS receiver. The gauge, the distance, the average and top speed, the alarm and the trip history are ordinary calculations running on the device.

There is no Speedometer account, no sign-up and no RiekApps server. The app does not ask who you are and does not connect to any RiekApps system. The two narrow exceptions — map tiles and address lookups — are in section 4.

2. How Your Location Is Used

Location is the whole point of a GPS speedometer: your speed is the rate your position changes, and your route is the positions joined together. The app asks for location permission for exactly that, and uses it for exactly that.

While a trip is recording, Android keeps the app’s location service running in the foreground so the recording does not stop when you lock the screen or put the phone in your pocket. You start that yourself by tapping START, a notification shows for as long as it runs, and it stops when you tap STOP. The app does not request background location access and cannot track you when you have not started a trip.

Positions are written to the app’s private database on your phone so a trip can be redrawn later. They are not sent to RiekApps.

3. What Is Stored On Your Device

In the app’s private storage, which other apps cannot read:

• Your recorded trips — date, duration, distance, average and top speed, the route, and the start and finish addresses.
• Your total mileage for each vehicle type, and the service interval you set.
• Your settings — units, dashboard colour, speed limits, gauge top speed, and the sound, vibration, screen and notification switches.
• Whether the one-time Pro purchase has been unlocked on this device, and how many free HUD trials remain.
• Whether the welcome screens, coach marks and offer have been shown.

That is the complete list. Deleting a trip removes it. Clearing the app’s data or uninstalling the app removes all of it.

4. What Leaves Your Phone

We would rather state this plainly than bury it. Two features need the network, and both involve your position leaving the device — not to us, but to the service that answers the request:

• Map tiles. When you open the Map tab, the app requests map images from OpenStreetMap. A tile request identifies the square of the world being drawn, which is your position rounded to that square. OpenStreetMap’s handling of those requests is theirs, described in the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
• Trip start and finish addresses. When a trip ends, the app asks your phone’s built-in geocoding service to turn the two coordinates into street addresses. On Android that service is Google’s; on iOS it is Apple’s. Two coordinates per trip are sent, and the address comes back and is stored on your phone.

Neither request goes to RiekApps, and neither is stored by us — we have no server on which to store it. If you never open the Map tab and never finish a trip, the app makes neither request. The speedometer, the gauge, the alarm and the recording all work with the network switched off.

5. What Is Never Collected

The app contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking code of any kind. In particular:

• No record of when, how often or how long you use the app.
• No copy of your trips, routes, speeds or mileage — those stay on your phone (section 3).
• No name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or account information.
• No device identifiers gathered by us — the app has no analytics SDK to gather them.
• No advertising SDKs, ad networks or third-party trackers. Version 1.0 contains no ads.

6. Purchases

Speedometer Pro is a single one-time purchase, billed by Google Play on Android and by Apple on iOS. They handle the payment and RiekApps never sees your card, billing address or account details. The app asks the store whether this device owns the purchase and stores only the answer, locally. Restoring purchases asks the same question again. 7. Device Backup

Your phone’s own backup may copy the app’s data to your Google or Apple account and restore it to a new phone. That is a feature of your device operating on your own account, not a RiekApps service, and RiekApps has no access to those backups. You can turn it off in Android Settings under Google → Backup, or in iOS Settings under your name → iCloud.

8. Permissions

• Location (precise) — the app’s entire purpose. Without it there is no speed to show. Precise location is required because approximate location is far too coarse to measure speed.
• Foreground service, location type (Android) — keeps a trip recording while the screen is off or the app is in the background. It runs only between START and STOP, and shows a notification the whole time.
• Notifications — for the trip recording notification and the optional live speed readout in your notification shade. Declining it leaves the rest of the app fully working.
• Internet — map tiles, address lookups, and the store purchase. Every speed and recording feature works with the network off.
• Vibration — haptics, and the buzz when you exceed your speed limit.
• Keep screen awake — optional, so the dashboard stays visible while you drive.

The app does not request background location access, and asks for no access to your camera, microphone, contacts, photos or files.

9. Your Choices And Rights

Because RiekApps collects nothing, there is no profile of you to access, correct, export or delete — the data simply does not exist on our side. The trips and settings held on your phone are under your control: delete individual trips in the app, or clear the app’s data or uninstall it to remove everything. You can revoke location permission at any time in your phone’s settings; the app will stop being able to measure speed and will say so, rather than failing silently. 10. Children

The app is intended for adults and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age.

11. Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version is published on this page with a new effective date. A change that broadens what the app collects will be announced in the app before it takes effect, not applied quietly.
