PDF Maker – Privacy Policy

1. On-Device Processing

Every operation PDF Maker performs on a document happens on your phone. Creating a PDF from photos or a scan, compressing it to a target size, merging, splitting, rotating and reordering pages, adding or removing a password, signing, converting pages to images, and reading Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are all done by code running on the device.

There is no PDF Maker server, and no stage of that work involves uploading your file. A document you open in PDF Maker is seen by your device and by whoever you choose to send it to — by nobody in between. The only time a document leaves your phone is when you explicitly share it or upload it to Google Drive, and in both cases it goes where you send it, not to us.

2. Analytics And Crash Reports

PDF Maker uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand which features are used and to find crashes. This is the one category of data the app does send, so it is worth being precise about what is in it.

Events the app records itself — each carries only these details:

• Which tool was opened, and whether it finished or failed. The tool is named generically, for example “compress” or “merge”.
• How many pages a result had, and its size in kilobytes. When you set an exact size target, the target and whether it was met.
• Whether the app was opened by another app handing it a document, and whether that document was a PDF or an Office file.
• That a search was run inside a document, and how many matches it found. The words you searched for are never included.
• Onboarding and tour completion, when the daily free limit was reached, when the Pro screen was shown, and the result of a purchase or restore.
• Whether the device has PDF Maker Pro, so the other events can be read separately for free and paid users.

Information Firebase adds automatically. Independently of the above, the Firebase SDK collects a randomly generated app instance identifier, your device model, operating system version, country or region, language, app version, session and first-open timestamps, an install referrer from Google Play, and your device’s advertising identifier. This identifier is not tied to a name, an email address or an account, because PDF Maker has none. PDF Maker shows no advertising and does not use this data for advertising.

Crash reports. When PDF Maker crashes, Crashlytics sends the stack trace along with the device model, operating system version, app version and how much memory and storage were free. A stack trace describes where in PDF Maker’s own code the failure happened. It does not contain your document, its name or its contents.

Firebase is operated by Google, which processes this data as a service provider on RiekApps’ behalf and may store it on servers outside your country. Google’s handling is described in the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation.

3. What Is Never Collected

Whatever else is true of the analytics above, none of the following is ever sent:

• No copy of a document, page image, scan or signature.
• No file name, folder name or file path.
• No text from inside a document, including the text of Word, Excel or PowerPoint files the app reads.
• No search terms typed into the in-document search or the file search.
• No password to a protected PDF.
• No name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos library, location or account.
• No advertising SDKs, ad networks or third-party trackers beyond Google Firebase as described above.

4. What Is Stored On Your Device

Everything PDF Maker remembers lives in the app’s private storage, which other apps cannot read:

• The PDFs you create in the app, together with their thumbnails.
• A count of how many free operations have been used today, and today’s date, so the free allowance can reset at midnight.
• Whether PDF Maker Pro has been unlocked on this device.
• Whether onboarding and the first-run tour have been seen.
• Your theme choice and other settings.

Uninstalling PDF Maker removes all of it. Files you have exported to your Downloads folder or shared elsewhere are outside the app and are not removed.

5. All Files Access

PDF Maker’s Files tab can list the documents already on your phone so that you can open or edit one without hunting for it. On Android 11 and above, documents are not covered by the photo and media permissions, so listing them requires the All files access permission.

This permission is requested only when you open the “On this phone” tab, and never on first launch. It is used solely to find and open documents on your device. No index of your files, and no file found this way, is transmitted anywhere. Every other part of PDF Maker works without granting it, and you can withdraw it at any time in Android Settings under Apps → PDF Maker → All files access.

6. Google Drive Upload

PDF Maker can upload a finished PDF to your Google Drive. This is entirely optional and happens only when you tap the upload action for a specific file.

Signing in is handled by Google. PDF Maker requests only the drive.file permission, which grants access to files the app itself creates in your Drive and to nothing else — the rest of your Drive stays invisible to it. The file is transferred directly from your device to Google’s servers; it does not pass through any RiekApps system, and we receive no copy of it. You can revoke this access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

7. Passwords On Protected PDFs

When you unlock an encrypted PDF, the password you type is passed to the on-device PDF engine and then discarded. It is not written to storage, not included in any analytics event, and not transmitted. The same is true of a password you set when protecting a document: it is applied to the file and then forgotten, so RiekApps cannot recover a password you lose.

8. Sharing And Opening Files

PDF Maker registers itself with Android so it appears when you tap a PDF or Office file in another app, and so files can be shared into it. Handing a file over in either direction is done by Android, between the two apps, on your device. When you share a document out of PDF Maker, Android’s share sheet passes it to the app you pick; where it goes after that is governed by that app’s privacy policy, not this one.

9. Android Backup

Android’s own backup is enabled for PDF Maker, so the app’s private storage — including the PDFs you have made in it and your settings — may be copied to your Google account and restored to a new phone. This is a Google feature operating on your own account, not a RiekApps service, and RiekApps has no access to those backups. You can turn it off in Android Settings under Google → Backup.

10. Purchases

PDF Maker Pro is a single one-time purchase, billed by Google Play. Google handles the payment and RiekApps never sees your card, billing address or Google account details. PDF Maker asks Google Play whether this device owns the purchase and stores only the answer, locally. Restoring purchases asks Google Play the same question again. There is no third-party billing or subscription service involved.

11. Permissions

• All files access — to list and open documents already on your phone. Requested only when you open the “On this phone” tab. See section 5.
• Camera — used by the document scanner when you scan a page. Frames are processed on the device and only the pages you keep become a PDF.
• Photos — used only when you pick images to turn into a PDF, through Android’s own picker, which gives the app just the images you select.
• Internet — used for analytics and crash reports, for Google Play billing, and for a Google Drive upload if you start one. Every document tool works with the network off.

12. Your Choices And Rights

Because PDF Maker has no account, there is no profile of you to look up. The analytics described in section 2 are tied to a random per-installation identifier rather than to your identity. You can:

• Reset or delete the advertising identifier, and opt out of personalised advertising, in Android Settings under Privacy → Ads.
• Clear the app’s data, or uninstall it, which removes the local identifier — a later reinstall counts as a new, unconnected installation.
• Decline All files access, and withdraw it later, without losing any other feature.
• Revoke Google Drive access at any time from your Google account.

If you are in a region with rights of access, correction, deletion or objection — for example under the GDPR or the Indian Digital Personal Data Protection Act — write to riekapps@gmail.com and we will act on your request. Be aware of a practical limit: the identifier is random and is never paired with your name, email address or any account, so we generally cannot single out one installation’s records on request. Clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it permanently detaches your device from them, and is the fastest remedy available. Where we rely on a legal basis for analytics, it is our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and in fixing crashes.

13. Children

PDF Maker is a general-purpose document tool and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age.

14. Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version is published on this page with a new effective date. A change that broadens what PDF Maker collects will be announced in the app before it takes effect, not applied quietly.
