Common questions
The scanner reads a colour wrongly
Colour comes from light. Scan in even white light — daylight from a window or a ceiling light — and avoid warm lamps, which push orange towards red and white towards yellow. Keep the whole face in the frame and let the app settle for a second before it captures. Any sticker it gets wrong can be fixed by tapping it and choosing the right colour; you never have to rescan a face for one sticker.
It says my cube can’t be solved
Every real cube can be solved, so this always means the colours entered do not describe a real cube: a sticker was read wrongly, a face was entered turned the wrong way, or two stickers were swapped. The message names what is off — a colour with the wrong count, an edge that cannot exist, a corner twisted on its own. Check that face against the cube and correct it. If the cube itself has had stickers peeled and swapped, or a corner was twisted in place, it genuinely cannot be solved by turning and needs to be fixed by hand first.
Which way do I hold the cube?
Hold it as the player tells you at the top: white centre on top, green centre facing you. Every arrow and every move name assumes that grip. If you rotate the whole cube in your hands, the moves will no longer match. When the step-by-step method asks you to flip the cube over, it says so as a move of its own.
I followed the moves and it’s not solved
Almost always one turn went the wrong way, or a quarter turn was made a half turn. A prime (R’) means counter-clockwise looking at that face; a 2 (R2) means half a turn. Use the back button to step to the move where it went wrong, and compare your cube with the one on screen — the 3D cube shows exactly how yours should look after each move. If you cannot find the point, scan the cube again and start a fresh solution.
How do I learn to do it without the app?
Open the Learn tab and take the three tracks in order: the basics, the notation, then the beginner method. Each card animates its move on a cube, and you swipe right when it clicks. Then scan your scrambled cube and choose Step by step in the player: it solves your own cube the way the method teaches, stage by stage, with each stage named. After a few cubes you will find you no longer need to look.
Fastest or Step by step?
Fastest gives the shortest solution, around 20 moves, for when you just want the cube solved. Step by step uses the beginner method, which takes many more moves but is the one a person can learn and repeat. Both solve the same cube; switch between them at the top of the player.
Remove ads, or restore the purchase
Settings → Remove ads is a single one-time purchase that turns every ad off for good. It does not unlock anything else, because nothing else is locked. If you reinstall or change phones, Settings → Restore purchase brings it back on any device signed in to the same Google or Apple account. It is per store: a Google Play purchase does not carry to the App Store.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. Scanning, solving, the lessons and the timer all work offline. Only the ads and the store purchase use the network.
Which cubes does it solve?
The standard 3x3 cube with six solid colours, in any colour scheme — the app reads the centres to learn yours. It does not solve 2x2, 4x4, Pyraminx or picture cubes in this version.
Report a problem
Write to riekapps@gmail.com and mention your phone model and OS version. For a scanning problem, describe the lighting; for a wrong solution, a photo of the cube as you scanned it is the fastest way for us to reproduce it.
Scanning and solving happen on your phone — no account, and no camera image is ever uploaded. The free version shows ads; see the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
