Bae – Privacy Policy
Effective September 16, 2026 · Bae version 1.0 for macOS, provided by RiekApps
Key Points
- Bae runs entirely on your Mac. Her lines, what she remembers about how you answer her, your settings, your countdowns and dates all stay in local app storage and never leave the device.
- There is no account, no sign-up, no RiekApps server and no analytics. Bae never plays sound and never records anything.
- Calendar access is optional and off by default. When you turn on event reminders, Bae reads upcoming events locally to nudge you ten minutes before them. Event content is never sent anywhere.
- Bae checks whether your camera or microphone is currently in use so she stays quiet during calls. She never accesses the camera image or the audio.
- The only network requests Bae makes are a small version check against bae.riekapps.com and, if you buy Pro, the checkout page you open in your browser.

1. Everything Happens On Your Mac
Bae is a small menu bar app that shows a cartoon character in the notch of your MacBook with short reminders: drink water, take a break, eat, go to bed, and a few playful extras. Deciding when to show a reminder, picking what she says, and remembering how you answered are all done on your Mac. The app works with no internet connection.
There is no Bae account, no sign-up and no RiekApps server that receives data from the app.
2. What Is Stored On Your Mac
Bae keeps the following in its local app storage (macOS user defaults), readable only by Bae on your user account:
- Your settings: language, quiet hours, reminder times and intervals, which reminders are on.
- Her memory: how many times you answered, snoozed or ignored each reminder, a simple mood score, daily totals of active time and longest sitting stretch, and streak counters. Old daily totals are deleted after three weeks.
- Anything you type in: custom reminders, countdowns, dates, lines you teach her, a big-day label, and the path of a photo folder if you choose one.
- Your Pro license key, if you buy Pro.
3. Calendar
Event reminders are off by default. If you turn them on, macOS asks you to grant Calendar access. Bae then reads events starting in the next few minutes to nudge you before them. Event titles and details are used only to decide when to show a nudge and are never stored or transmitted. You can revoke access at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Calendars.
4. Camera And Microphone
So that she does not interrupt a call, Bae asks macOS whether any app is currently using the camera or the default microphone. This is a yes-or-no status. Bae does not request camera or microphone permission, never receives video or audio, and never records anything.
5. The Photo Folder
Optionally, you can point Bae at a folder of pictures for her to show one on weekends. She picks a file from that folder and displays it in the notch bubble. The pictures are read from disk on the spot and are not copied, indexed or uploaded.
6. Activity, Apps And Battery
To know when you are at the keyboard, Bae reads the system idle time, the name of the frontmost application, and the battery level and charger state from macOS. She uses these to time reminders such as breaks, long stretches in one app, and low battery. Application names are used only to pick a fitting line and are not kept beyond the current sitting.
7. Network: Update Checks
Every few hours Bae fetches a small text file from bae.riekapps.com to learn whether a newer version exists. This request carries no personal data and no identifier. Like any web request, our hosting provider sees the connecting IP address in server logs, which are kept briefly for operational purposes. Downloads of the app come from the same site.
8. Bae Pro
Bae Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks extra features. Buying it opens a checkout page in your browser run by a payment provider, which receives the details you enter there under its own privacy policy. RiekApps never sees your card details. You receive a license key, which Bae verifies on your Mac without contacting any server, and stores locally.
9. What RiekApps Never Collects
- Your name, email, contacts, or any account information.
- Usage analytics, crash reports, or advertising identifiers. Bae contains no analytics or advertising SDK.
- What she said to you, how you answered, your calendar content, your photos, or the apps you use.
- Audio, video or screen content of any kind.
10. Your Choices
Every reminder and every extra can be switched off in Bae’s Settings. Removing the app from your Applications folder removes it; deleting its preferences file under ~/Library/Preferences/com.riekapps.notchbae.plist removes everything she remembered. Calendar access can be revoked in System Settings.
11. Children
Bae is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
12. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with an updated effective date.
